Common Ground Dickson (Tenancy/Property Management): Located in the heart of Gungahlin in the ACT, Common Ground Canberra is a low-cost, supportive living initiative focused on providing long-term and secure housing to individuals who have experienced homelessness or are on low incomes. This style of housing was pioneered in New York over 25 years ago and has since found global success.
The ReCyclery: The ReCyclery is a community bicycle workshop featuring tools, experienced mechanics, and volunteers, as well as an endless supply of secondhand bikes and components. Our goal is to provide a space where all Canberrans can gain new skills and share their old ones, while working towards a healthier city.
Community Pantry: If you’re struggling or experiencing hardship, visit our pantries to purchase or access affordable basic food and personal care items, including cleaning products, hygiene items, and toiletries.
Crisis Support: Struggling to meet your basic needs? Feeling overwhelmed? Not sure what to do? Our Crisis Support (Emergency Relief) services can help. We help by addressing the immediate crisis. The type of support you receive differs depending on your situation.
Disability Services: We provide support for people living with a disability through in-centre programs, that focus on independent skill building in group-based environments, with supports appropriate to individual need. Our programs run in Tuggeranong and Gungahlin.
Venue Hire: We offer venue hire services in three locations in Canberra: Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and Denman Prospect. Please note that Communities at Work has a no-alcohol policy for all room hires. Please call 02 6293 6500 to check room hire availability.
Gungahlin Child and Family Centre
Most services are for families with children up to 8, and some are for children up to 12. You can get help before and after a child's birth.
Families and carers can get free: parenting support and advice, child development assessments with the Child Development Service, referrals to other health, wellbeing and support services, help from a qualified social worker, and playgroups and parenting groups.
Gungahlin Youth and Community Space (“Gunners Place”)
Youth Drop-In: Regular youth drop-in every Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and the first Friday of each month from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. during the school semester. The drop-in is staffed by friendly and approachable youth workers happy to talk, hang out, and support young people aged 12 to 25.
Venue Hire: Gunners Place hosts community activities and programs run by its four partner organisations: Barnardos Australia, Northside Community Service, Multicultural Hub, and Relationships Australia Canberra & Region. Outside of these times, the venue has limited availability for bookings by other organisations.
Libaries ACT (Gungahlin Library)
Libraries ACT provides library and information services to residents and visitors across Canberra. We hold over 2.5 million physical items - books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and provide access to almost 400,000 electronic resources and run a range of community programs and events.
Margaret Hendry School Community Room (“The Hive”)
Margaret Hendry School is located in Taylor at the heart of northern Gungahlin. The school offers a range of modern spaces for hire by the local community. The venue hosts community activities such as Conversation Exchange Group and Craft and Conversation Group.
Men’s Link (Remote Office at Gunners Place)
Counselling for Young Guys: Sometimes guys need extra help if there’s something in their life they really want to change. If you’ve got a bunch of hassles you’re uncomfortable with and need a hand sorting them out, then our counselling service might be the go.
Multicultural Hub (Partner at Gunners Place)
Youth Services: Our friendly team is always available and can help with: Someone to talk to, friends & relationships, navigating cultural identity, getting on at school, finding a job, family and health matters, and exploring new opportunities
Northside Community Service (Partner at Gunners Place)
Common Ground Dickson (Case Management/Community Development): We aim to successfully end long-term homelessness through housing people experiencing vulnerability in our communities. This is a permanent supportive housing solution and not a temporary service.
Community Bus: Northside Community Service offers a bus (15 seats + 1 wheelchair & ramp) for not-for-profit organisations and community groups to utilise here in Canberra.
Youth Engagement: Northside’s Youth Engagement programs support children and young people aged 12 – 25 who live or play in the Inner North and Gungahlin regions of the ACT to connect meaningfully with their community.
Ngunnawal Street Pantry (NSP)
The NSP run on the philosophy of ‘give when you can, take when you need’.
Bike Library: This operates just like a regular library, providing long-term access to second-hand bicycles, scooters, helmets, and locks to any adult or child requiring a bike. Loans are available for up to six months, with extensions available upon request.
Relationships Australia Canberra & Region (Partner at Gunners Place)
Gambling Support: The ACT Gambling Support Service offers 24/7 telephone support, online and face-to-face gambling and financial counselling services, and lived experience peer support.
Employment Plus: We understand a job is an opportunity for a better, more secure, more stable and empowered life. And we want that for you, no matter your background or circumstances.
School Programs: We provide innovative programs for Canberra school students, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to thrive as future leaders. Our initiatives focus on personal development, academic support, and community engagement, fostering critical thinking and collaboration.
Moneycare: The Salvation Army Moneycare provides FREE and confidential Financial Counselling to people experiencing financial difficulties. Whether its credit cards, overdue bills, car loan, mortgage, budgeting or bankruptcy – our professional team of counsellors are here to help.
Taylor Mingle: ‘Mingle' is a Suburban Land Agency initiative that builds vibrant communities through activities.
T25 Clinic (soon to offer services in Gungahlin)
T25 Clinic is a free, nurse-led health and wellbeing service. Provided in a safe and confidential space. The team who lead T25 are here to talk about any health and wellbeing concerns you may have, without judgement. This service is entirely free and operates on a walk-in basis.
The Junction Youth Health Van (partners with Gunners Place)
The Junction Youth Outreach Van goes out weekly to support anyone who might struggle to make it all the way into the City for an appointment. The Van is staffed by a Doctor and a Nurse or Youth Worker. No appointments needed and new patients are welcome, just turn up during our hours.
Integrated Family Support Service: Our case management team supports families and individuals in the wider Belconnen and Gungahlin regions. Through case management, we: Provide information and advocacy, work collaboratively to explore options, and provide practical assistance to help people experiencing a range of challenges
